MEDICARE INSURANCE

 Medicare is a federally funded health insurance program run by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). It is called Original or Traditional Medicare and includes Parts A and B.

  • Part A or Hospital insurance provides Inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facilities, hospice care, and limited home healthcare.
  • Part B or Medical insurance provides doctor’s appointments, preventive services, lab tests, X rays & diagnostic tests, emergency care, injectable drugs, outpatient services and durable medical equipment 

SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE

Supplemental insurance (also called Medigap insurance) provides financial coverage for the cost Medicare does not pay, such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.

PART D-PHARMACY INSURANCE

Original Medicare insurance does not include pharmacy coverage. Individuals who need medication coverage can purchase a pharmacy insurance plan from private companies. 

DENTAL/VISION/HEARING INSURANCE

Original Medicare insurance does not include dental, vision or hearing coverage. Individuals who need these benefits can purchase dental or vision or hearing insurance plans individually or as a combined plan. 

MEDICARE ADVANTAGE INSURANCE

 Medicare Advantage plans are an alternative to Original Medicare, and are purchased from private health insurance companies. These plans are commonly referred to as  Medicare Part C plans and must provide the same services as Original Medicare. In many cases, they also include additional benefits such as pharmacy , dental, vision and hearing, and supplemental coverage all within the same plan.

Another form federal health Insurance for individuals and families that do not have access to health insurance by an employer or group health plan is called ACA (Affordable Care Act) or marketplace insurance. These plans are referred to as “metal level plans” and include Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. The difference between each metal level is based on the costs for covered healthcare services covered by the plan and the member. Market-based plans include premiums, deductibles, copayments and coinsurance like other health insurance plans.
